Caroline (Candice Accola) we always knew was sensible and had a plan chalked out for everything. This held true for her living out her blood-thirsty emotional-less vampire phase as well. She had decided that she will have fun, party hard and flirt, but not for once will kill a person. Not for at least a year, until then she was sure Damon and Elena will come to her rescue.
Stefan (Paul Wesley) is out for revenge. He knows how it feels when one is out of their ripper self, and he doesn’t want to drown in regret, alone. He will make Caroline live through that painful phase since she is responsible for him turning off the humanity switch.
Stefan decides to wreck Caroline’s plan.
Caroline had wanted to be part of the Mystic Falls high school musical and would have secured the role, with her emotional rendition of Still Hurting, but Stefan ends up ripping the director’s head off. The two fight and try to stop the other from succeeding in their plans.
A college student ends up in the middle of their fight and in spite of saving her life initially; Caroline succumbs to Stefan’s enticement and ends up joining him to suck her blood.
Meanwhile, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is caught between Stefan’s ripper self and Lily’s (Anne Wersching) prison world. Elena (Nina Dobrev) convinces him to use his mother, Lily as an emotional trigger to claim Stefan back.
Damon approaches Bonnie (Kat Graham) to help them with the magic blood for a spell to rescue his mother. They team with up Kai (Chris Wood) who has the ascendant for the 1903 prison world. Bonnie had refused to be a part of anything that involved Kai, but she comes up with another plan and agrees.
