Longmire fans were pretty worried after A&E dropped the show after its third season. However, fans started pleading for the return of this American Crime Drama series and then this show was finally taken by Netflix.
10 episodes were finally launched on the streaming service this year, in September. Finally on 30th October, it was announced by Netflix that Longmire has been renewed for a fifth season.
After this announcement, fans heaved a collective sigh of relief. This is primarily because Season 4 of the show completely ended up in a cliffhanger and Walt Longmire (played by Robert Taylor) had his fate put up in question. Walt was shown relaxing at home with his new love at the end of Season 4.
While spending quality time with Dr. Donna Sue Monahan (Ally Walker), it seemed like the worst was finally behind them but then an intruder entered the cabin, Meanwhile, an earlier line by Walter, “Do you ever feel you’ve created more evil than you’ve stopped? “, played over the scene.
When asked about the Season 4 finale, Lou Diamond Philips, who plays Henry Standing Bear on the show, revealed to Variety that this speaks to all of their optimism. The funny thing is that the show’s cast and crew had no assurance regarding a fifth season but even then, this suspense-filled final episode was released at the end of season 4.
Thankfully, fans were lucky enough to hear that Netflix has already declared a fifth season. Philips further admitted that the Netflix is a good network for the show, while talking about the transition from A&E to Netflix.
He further revealed that there was an earlier time constraint of 42 minutes, which resulted in a lot of his work hitting the floor. He further stated, “With an additional 20 minutes, we can let those moments breathe and round out those characters and it’s a much more cinematic experience episode to episode.”
In the meantime, fans are wondering about the characters they are going to witness in Season 5. Tony Tost, the show-writer announced that he will be making a return to the writer’s room in order to work on Longmire Season 5.
According to a Twitter post from Tony, he was re-watching Season 4 in order to prepare for writing the fifth season of the show. The exact release date of Longmire Season 5 is yet to be announced by Netflix.
In the meantime, there has been an announcement that Longmire Season 5 will be the last season of this series. As a result, fans are not at all happy and this will certainly not be welcome news for the ardent viewers of this series. The fans have been working hard to ensure the renewal of this show for the past few seasons.
In spite of that, the news can mean a positive impact on the series. Sheriff Longmire executed Barlow Connally for murdering his wife in Season 4 and it cannot be denied that the storyline of this show has been dragging since then. In fact, even the truest and most ardent fan of Longmire will agree to this fact.
With the new deadline in mind, it is possible that the writers will come up with fresher and more innovative story material before this much-wanted series meets its end. After its return, Longmire Season 5 will start having 1 hour long episodes. Lou Diamond Philips, who plays Longmire’s best friend, already confirmed it.
