A blog in April 2015 recollects Martin writing that he doesn’t expect “The Winds of Winter” to be eligible for the 2016 Hugo award, which is meant for the best science fiction or fantasy fiction novel.
Reports published in The Entertainment Weekly, pertaining to their interview with Martin, state that he admits to publish the novel before The Game of Thrones season six releases on HBO in 2016.
