F. Gary Gray, the helmsman of Straight Outta Compton will be the director of Fast and Furious 8 and during Vin Diesel’s appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, a lot more details regarding the film was finally released. Diesel confirmed that Gray will be the director of this movie and further revealed that this franchise was going to be set mainly in New York.
Most of the recent movies in the Fast and Furious franchise were set outside the United States, ranging from London to Rio but at that time, our characters were basically outlaws hiding from US authorities.
Vin Diesel further revealed that a trilogy has been planned with him and Paramount Pictures planning three more movies. The speculations confirm that the trilogy will be closing out the franchise which will result in a Grand Finale in Fast and Furious 10.
Cinema Blend further states that the final set of films will bring back most of the main cast except for few of the characters which have been already killed off, like Sung Kang’s Han and Giselle, played by Gal Gadot.
No details regarding the late Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’ Connor was revealed after his proper send off in Faster and Furious 7. During an interview with Huffington Post Live, Jordana Brewster revealed that Mia Connor, wife of O’ Connor might be back in the eighth upcoming film of this franchise.
Mia could appear in the form of a short cameo since it was already established in the last film that they were done with the dangerous lifestyle and considered themselves retired. Speculations suggest that Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody will be coming back and Dwayne Johnson will definitely be a cast member in the next film.
Present reports indicate that Fast and Furious 8 will be back to its original racing roots and fans should be quite excited with this new development. Movie News Guide suggests that the first film in this franchise-concluding trilogy will be an adaptation of a story from a Racing Car Magazine.
Vin Diesel revealed on the set of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that Fast and Furious 8 will be like the first movie that was actually based on an article published by Vibe Magazine. During another interview with MTV, Vin Diesel revealed that he doesn’t know the official title for the upcoming movie.
However, he keeps referring to it as Fast and Furious 8 as he gets lazy. He further indicated that it is never the official title and coming out with a fixed name is quite difficult. In the meantime, Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Leticia Letty Ortiz in the Fast and Furious Franchise, said that the concluding trilogy will in fact be a tribute to Paul Walker’s vision.
According to her, Paul Walker always complained about the blue screen and special effects and wanted the movies to be brought back down to its core, which is racing. Paul Walker tragically passed away in a car crash on 30th November 2013 and he was one of the main characters of the Fast and Furious franchise.
All the movies in this franchise so far, raked in around $2.3 billion so it is expected that this series should be given a proper send-off through a brilliant concluding trilogy. Earlier speculations placed the upcoming movie in Los Angeles but Diesel’s recent statements have confirmed New York as the location.
Gray is a music and film director, responsible for movies like The Italian Job and he agreed to be the director of Fast and Furious 8.
