Xiaomi Mi 5 has been awaited for a really long time. It is the upcoming flagship smartphone from Xiaomi and Xiaomi fans are pretty amped about it. The company is known for providing devices with great value for money and apparently, the Mi5 will not be an exception.
According to a comment from Cheng Guifeng, the Chief Engineer of the China Telecom Guangzhou Research Institute, the Mi5 should have a base price of 2499 Yuan and it should be priced in the 2000-3000 price range.
The Chief Engineer reported that Xiaomi now wants to lose the budget label of their company. Since the launch of Xiaomi Mi4, around 17 months have passed. The company hasn’t lost its reputation of manufacturing low-priced handsets and the fact that they have been doing so for quite some time, has further added to their reputation.
From the looks of it, Xiaomi fans are waiting for the release of the Mi5 and they have been pretty patient about it. Xiaomi had a hot start in the beginning of this year but since then, the sales have slowed down dramatically.
The phone should be released by the second quarter of 2016. Xiaomi has a cult following in its own country and we can expect that a lot of people are waiting to get their hands on it. The Mi5 will come with stellar features and its $385 price tag should be pretty justified for most customers.
However, from the looks of it, Xiaomi wants to be known as a premium smartphone manufacturer. In order to accomplish this (if this is really what’s happening), Xiaomi will need to make major improvements starting from their low-end handsets, working all the way up to their flagship offerings.
Meanwhile, the flagship offering from Xiaomi has been in the rumor mill for a pretty long time. It all started from leaked images to a number of speculations but this smartphone is yet to become official. Its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi4 has aged in every possible manner. The device doesn’t support a lot of new features, which includes 4G.
However, Xiaomi CEO claimed that the upcoming Mi5 was a smartphone that is definitely worth waiting for and plenty of hardware details have been leaked from a credible source. Recently, Oppomart, an online mobile retailer put out a listing regarding the possible specifications of this smartphone but it was soon taken down.
Few of the details that were leaked, comply with the earlier leaks and rumors but along with that, some fresh new details have been introduced as well. The listing revealed that Xiaomi Mi5 will sport a 5.5 Quad HD display (2560 x 1440 pixels) sporting a pixel density of 515 ppi.
It was expected right from the beginning and the latest leaks have proved that Mi5 will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset clocked at 2.5 GHz, coupled with 4 GB of RAM. None of the variants will include microSD card support but they will be available in 16GB/64GB and 128GB variants. In the camera department, the Mi5 should have a 20 megapixel rear shooter and an 8 megapixel front shooter.
Unlike its predecessor, the device will come with 4G band support and should have a 3800mAh battery. Present rumors indicate that the Xiaomi Mi5 will have a $599 price tag but we are not sure whether this is the price of the base model or the most expensive offering in the lineup. Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime was introduced a few days back and it comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset.
