Rise of the Tomb Raider is an action-adventure game that has been developed by Crystal Dynamics. It was released by Square Enix for Xbox One and Xbox 360 back in November 2015. The PC version of the game was released in January 2016.
Square Enix is yet to release the PlayStation 4 version of the game, however, it is expected that it will be rolled out in the second half of the ongoing year.
Some previous reports suggested that the developers would release a brand new DLC for the game on March 29. It was listed on the Xbox Store for a March 29 release and the listing came with a description which read-
“A decommissioned Cold War research base has been breached, unleashing a deadly affliction from its Siberian slumber. As the illness seeps into the wilderness surrounding the base, Trinity soldiers transform into bloodthirsty killers who thrive on carnage.
To prevent the affliction from spreading, Lara must rely on her wits, physical agility, and crafting abilities to overcome this new enemy and shut down the decommissioned base.”
Players in possession of the Season Pass will be able to get their hands on the new expansion pack for free. However, it can also be brought as a standalone item for a price of $9.99.
As promised, the DLC was released for the different platforms on March 29. It has been titled- Cold Darkness Awakened. This expansion pack brings forth some creatures to the game that share close resemblance to zombies. However, the game is abstaining from dubbing these creatures as zombies.
As the description suggests, these creatures are a result of an illness that affected the inhabitants of a Cold War research base. A particular YouTube user by the name of sneaky snake has made a video which features gameplay from the new expansion pack.
In the video it can be seen that unlike normal zombies, which are quite slow and dull, the creatures in the expansion pack possess the ability to move quite fast. They are also capable of indulging in fights with the protagonist of the game. The weapons of choice for these monsters are explosives and knives.
A brand new outfit- the Ushanka Outfit is also included in the new update. Players will be able to dress up Lara Croft in this brand new outfit after application of the outfit. The outfit is designed in such a way that while wearing it, Lara will receive lesser amount of damage while engaging in melee fights.
Fans who have already experienced the gameplay of the new expansion packs are of the opinion that stealth is the key to gain an upper-hand against these undead creatures. Lara Croft will be tasked with stopping the outbreak in three different locations within the base.
These three locations are actually three different chemical production towers. Along the way, Lara will come across a number of prisoners whom she will have to rescue.
Players will also be asked to search for and locate weapon caches that are scattered around the base. Instructions on how to work the different fuse boxes, levers and pumps will be received by the player from Nadia via radio.
Players will have to perform the various required tasks while being surrounded by the deadly creatures. If they are alerted of the player’s presence, they will start chasing her around to attack her. These creatures can swiftly sprint towards a prey and take it down in a matter of seconds.
One of the striking feature of the virus that is creating this outbreak is that it can only affect males. It is for this very reason that Lara Croft, being a girl, is able to venture into the base to stop the outbreak from spreading further.
