With the launch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 finally around the corner, it is time for the much-awaited Xiaomi Mi5 to make its way to the showroom.
Smartphone manufacturing giants Xiaomi was held up by the launch of the Snapdragon 820, which is expected to have fixed a few heating and performance issues previously encountered on the Snapdragon 810.
However, with the hardware finally ready to take its place in the smartphones, Xiaomi is gearing up to launch the Mi5 soon. Xiaomi has teased its fans in China that the Mi5 might be launched as soon as next weeks, the coming Wednesday to be precise. The device that was teased featured a question mark followed with the words ‘Mi Dial 11’.
No definite meaning could be deciphered at the moment, although, the fans believe that Xiaomi has hinted at a release date, possibly 11th November. However, that was not the case as we know at the moment.
Another faction of the fans believes that Xiaomi is looking forward to launching two smartphones simultaneously, although, this report is just as inconclusive as the previous rumor.
Xiaomi had plans of launching the Mi Note 2 (pro), although, we are not sure whether they plan on launching the device alongside the flagship Mi5.
If both the devices were held up due to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, there is a high chance of both these device launching simultaneously. However, there are no confirmed reports on this subject as of yet.
Unconfirmed reports have sprung up suddenly claiming that Xiaomi is gearing up to launch the Mi5 at an event to be held on the 3rd of December, although, representatives of Xiaomi are currently tightlipped about the scenario.
The Xiaomi Mi5 is one of the most awaited smartphones of the year, especially since the Mi3 and Mi4 were such potent devices. Both the device revolutionized the smartphone industry and made high-end, spec-rich smartphones affordable.
In a market segment dominated by Samsung and Apple, Xiaomi managed to make a name for itself and topple Samsung from it position. Like its predecessors, the Xiaomi Mi5 is spec-rich and the only definitive factor that the makers were waiting for was the processor.
With Qualcomm finally ready to mass produce the Snapdragon 820, Xiaomi has revealed some of the other features that the upcoming flagship is expected to boast of. The device features a 5.3-inch Quad HD touchscreen featuring 1,440 x 2,560 px resolution along with 4GB of RAM.
It further features a 16MP primary camera with optical image stabilization along with an ultrasonic high-speed fingerprint scanner and a 6MP secondary lens. The smartphone is backed up by a 3,030 mAh battery and a Type-C USB port. The Xiaomi Mi5 could very well be the first smartphone to be powered by an octa-core processor from Qualcomm.
The Xiaomi Mi5 is expected to feature an expandable microUSB slot, although, final reports can only be shared after the smartphone is officially on the block.
There are reports of an unconfirmed device that was benchmarked at Geekbench, which many believe is the Xiaomi Mi5. This device, codenamed Xiaomi Gemini, runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and features a 3GB RAM.
There are two probable theories regarding the scenario, 1. Xiaomi is launching two variants of the Mi5, one with 3GB of RAM and a 4GB version, and 2. The Xiaomi Gemini is another device altogether.
It is difficult to claim which is actually true since Xiaomi is yet to come up with a formal announcement regarding the scenario.
