The long awaited Xiaomi Mi5 is set to hit the markets in January next year. There has been a lot of anticipation regarding the Mi5 among fans, especially after its predecessor- the Mi4 was able to cater to the needs of the fans in an optimum manner.
It was speculated that the Xiaomi Mi5 would be available sometime during the end of the current year. However, Xiaomi decided to launch another of its flagship model instead, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, on 24th November.
At the launch event of the Redmi Note 3, Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, assured fans that their long wait for the Mi5 will be rewarded as the device is designed to meet their expectations in every way.
He also stated that the developers are currently hard at work on the device and the company will come forward with a specific release date as soon as possible.
Though the CEO did not divulge any details regarding the Mi5’s price or specifications, rumors are already starting to do rounds on the internet about the technical aspects of the device.
It was earlier reported by a renowned website that the device is slated to release at the CES 2015. The phone was expected to feature an updated Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.
However, this possibility was erased due to the fact that the Snapdragon 810 had overheating issues. The Xiaomi Mi5 features the Snapdragon 820 processor instead of the 810.
The Snapdragon 820 is set to hit the market in the opening months of 2016 and this could possibly be the reason behind the delay in the release of the Mi5.
Reports state that the Mi5 will be the first one to bring forth the Snapdragon 820 processor into the world of smartphones.
The device was previously reported to be sporting a 5.3-inch screen with Quad HD display, along with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It is also slated to sport 4 GB of RAM, enabling it to function seamlessly along with the new Adreno 530 GPU.
Two variations of the device will be made available to fans, one with 16 GB of internal memory and the other with 64 GB. However, the storage space of the device will not be expandable as the device does not feature an external microSD card slot.
The Mi5 features a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel lens for its front counterpart. The rear camera will come with the Optical Image Stabilization feature and dual LED flash. The Android-based OS MIUI 7 which is developed by Xiaomi will run the device.
The phone will come armed with Type-C USB and a fingerprint sensor. The USB Type-C is currently used in most smartphones for its efficiency in both charging and data transfer. The touchscreen will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
The 3030 mAh battery that the device sports would definitely keep the phone running for a considerable amount of time, once fully charged.
The Xiaomi Mi5 is expected to arrive with a price tag that will be within the $315-$400 mark.
At the launch event of the Redmi Note 3, Lei Jun said that the Mi5 is already being tested internally by the employees, but fans will have to wait a little longer to finally get their hands on the device.
Lei was asked at the event whether Xiaomi would make its range of smartphones available in countries like Japan or the US, he answered the question by simply stating that the company has the aim of bringing its devices to customers from across the globe.
In a previous announcement, the company had stated that Xiaomi’s smartphones will definitely make its way to the US markets, but this will likely to take a few years to implement.
Until that time, fans in this country will able to get their hands on some of the accessories and non-mobile gadgets from the company that is made available through the Xiaomi Mi Online Store in America.
