Xiaomi is constantly introducing new devices to their ever-growing range of celebrated smartphones. The company’s latest addition to the mid-range smartphone market is the Xiaomi Mi 4i. India is the target market for Xiaomi’s ‘affordable flagship’ smartphones, it’s still needs to be seen if the device can compete with other similar devices in this range. First, let’s take a look at the features and specifications of this device.
The Xiaomi Mi 4i features an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors. It has a display size of 5.0inches and a (~71.7% screen-to-body ratio) display resolution of full-HD 1080×1920 pixels along with a 441ppi pixel density. The device supports Multi-Touch and is protected by Corning Scratch-resistant glass.
The device launched with the MIUI v6.0 interface which is a refreshing addition. The Xiaomi Mi 4i sports a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 chipset and a Quad-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53 along with Adreno 405GPU.
It has an internal storage capacity of 16GB and comes with 2GB of RAM. However, it doesn’t include a card slot for further storage expansion. The 13MP rear camera has features like Geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama, and HDR. The secondary camera is a decent 5MP snapper.
Design-wise, the difference between the Mi4 and the Mi4i is openly noticeable. The aluminum frame and the glossy plastic back cover in the Mi4 are absent and the Mi4i has a matte polycarbonate body. The overall design is quite similar to the previous generation Xiaomi smartphones and overall it looks and feels great.
There are many key differences but the Mi 4i manages to retain the superior display of its elder brother. With the same IPS LCD capacitive 5-inch 1080p display, the Xiaomi Mi4i churns out the same display quality and feel of the Mi4. The display is excellent and is a great addition for a device at this price range.
The color reproduction is precise, the viewing angles are perfect and the color temperatures appear neutral in nature. In bright sunlight, the readability is excellent thanks to hardware level adjustments made by Xiaomi.
Right now, smartphone users are no longer looking only at the design and features but they also demand performance. Thankfully, the Xiaomi Mi 4i delivers on that aspect. The 1.7GHz 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor has proven to be quite capable compared to other smartphones in this range.
