TMZ and its corporate partner, Warner Bros. filed a complaint in California federal court against Jacob Miller, who actually provided the site with a video that shows the actor and frontman of 30 Seconds to Mars, Jared Leto, critiquing Taylor Swift’s work in an admiring manner before adding “I mean, f— her. I don’t give a f— about her.”
TMZ was sued for copyright infringement while Leto apologized. The news website was blasted for invading his privacy by publishing a video that was stolen. Due to the lawsuit, Leto was put in the court against Warner Bros.
This is quite disturbing since Warner Bros. is distributing Suicide Squad which stars Jared Leto as The Joker. Meanwhile, Kelly Klaus has been tapped by Warner Bros. and TMZ. This is the same attorney who represented Warner/Chappell, during the battle over whether “Happy Birthday” was in the public domain.
He is the same person who defends the legal action regarding the Leto footage. This initial move is actually an attempt to pin the responsibility on Miller. A complaint by TMZ and Warner Bros opened; stating that at the heart of this lawsuit is a pretty straightforward question.
A question was raised regarding who is the actual copyright owner of the allegedly infringed video on 4th December, 2015.
