When we last saw Optimus Prime, it was in Transformers: Age of Extinction where he managed to free himself from the shackles of our Earth. He decided to head off into outer space and take part in an unknown adventure.
Meanwhile, the terrestrial fort was held down by the Autobots: Bumblebee, Crosshairs, Drift and Hound. At the same time, Megatron remained at large. A host of new plot details were unearthed by Joblo.com and they answer a lot of fan questions while directing towards a highly odd set of rumors.
The rumors suggest that Optimus Prime travelled all the way back to his homeworld Cybertron while covering a great deal of intangible ground. Sadly, he found it completely devastated and decimated. Things get worse when he finds out that he is the one responsible for this ruination. However, there is still hope.
If Optimus Prime wishes to save Cybertron from total destruction, he must travel back to Earth and acquire an artifact which is somehow connected to the wizard called Merlin. It is further revealed that early in the medieval period, Merlin came across a time-travelling Transformer and he was endowed with supernatural abilities.
We have no idea what kind of artifact Optimus Prime is looking for and how he wishes to get his hands on it. Joblo guessed that the artifact is none other than the famous sword, Excalibur, which is the most significant symbol pertaining to the Arthurian Legend.
From the looks of it, in Transformers; The Last Knight, Optimus Prime will be spending a good amount of time, travelling back and forth between Earth and Cybertron. The bottom-line is that he will be looking for a magical relic that is centuries old and most likely, the all-powerful blade of King Arthur.
Keep in mind that this is just one sub-plot in a film that will have a running time of 2 to 3 hours. While Optimus Prime remains busy looking for this artifact, Bumblebee will assume the position as the Autobots Leader and their new base will be in the Badlands of South Dakota.
Meanwhile, characters we saw back in Transformers: Age of Extinction, like Hound, Crosshairs and Drift (voiced by John Goodman, John DiMaggio and Ken Watanabe) will be back in Transformers 5. As always, Megatron remains a villain and he will probably be the supreme villain of Transformers 5.
The Dinobots will return as well and there will be Mini-Dinobots too. However, details regarding their interaction and importance in the storyline are yet to be revealed. Joblo also introduced the names of a few new transformers.
These include a Vespa named Squeaks, a mysterious character that has been dubbed ‘The Creator’ and a British-accented Aston Martin called Cogman. In case of humans, Mark Wahlberg will reprise his role as Carl Jaegar while Josh Duhamel will return as William Lennox, after being absent in the last film. Transformers 5 will also introduce Anthony Hopkins in this franchise. He will be lending his voice to one of the robotic characters, most probably The Creator.
In the meantime, a lot of pictures from the Transformers 5 set in Phoenix, Arizona, were revealed. You will notice a lot of military vehicles. This includes an interesting Mercedes Benz military vehicle with funny bumper stickers like ‘gun control means using both hands’. You will also notice some government-themed Suburbans.
They have a symbol which looks like an upside-down roman numeral ‘V’ that was used in one of the Transformer 5 logos. The photos include the damaged version of such a Suburban and also some damaged vehicles, placed on a flatbed.
