Rumors And Speculations on Mads Mikkelsen’s Character Identity in Doctor Strange, The Whitewashing Issue Is Addressed by Marvel!

Doctor Strange is a highly anticipated upcoming Marvel Studios film starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Tilda Swinton.

The latest details for Doctor Strange will feature the super villain name for Mads Mikkelsen’s character along with Marvel’s response regarding the whitewashing scenario and also the Eye of Agamotto being an infinity stone.

Mads Mikkelsen revealed that he plays an opponent or a baddie. He corrected it by saying that he is not exactly a baddie but actually someone who has a different perspective when compared to Doctor Strange. Each of them believes in different things and concepts.

Meanwhile, comic book fans are wondering why Mads Mikkelsen’s character is in the upcoming movie, especially after the star’s costume appeared on the internet. Mikkelsen’s character has been described as a kind of a sorcerer who parts ways with the Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton.

He was predicted to play one of Doctor Strange’s fearsome enemies, known as Dormanu. After the release of the first trailer, a lot of people believed that Mikkelsen’s character could take a whole new direction instead of being the Marvel villain, Dormanu.

Reports suggest that his character in the upcoming movie could be that of Nightmare, who is another inter-dimensional being like Dormanu and he further has the ability to bend reality in his domain.

At the same time, Mikkelsen could portray another villain named Xandu. He is a rogue sorcerer who keeps challenging Strange with various mystical artifacts like Wand of Watoomb, as reported by Collider.

Right now, fans of Doctor Strange will have to wait till Marvel introduces a new teaser trailer and reveals the identity of Mads Mikkelsen in the upcoming movie. Now, we also have the whitewashing issue surrounding Tilda Swinton’s portrayal as the Ancient One in Doctor Strange.

A lot of fans were disappointed with the choice of changing the character from its original source material. In the comics, the Ancient One is an elderly male from Kamar-Tej, Tibet who has been living for centuries and this topic has been touted to be racially stereotyped.

Kevin Feige, the Marvel President said that considering the character today, this could emerge as racial stereotyping and further explained that the ‘Ancient One’ is merely a title that has been passed to many different characters, irrespective of race or gender.

Feige further explained that the Ancient One is a female character and this provides something interesting to be explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a total Geekall podcast, it was revealed that the Ancient One by Swinton is of Celtic Origin and it was further hinted that there are various other beings before her, who claim that title. This further supports Feige’s explanation.

Marvel further mentioned that there is a very strong record of diversity in the casting of films and it constantly strays away from stereotypes and source material in order to bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe to life. Further rumors indicate that the Eye of Agamotto could be an Infinity Stone as well.

According to Feige, the Eye of Agamotto is so powerful that if it falls into the wrong hands, it could become highly dangerous. It has the power to manipulate any probability, which includes time as well. In his explanation, Feige hinted at time and it was quickly assumed by fans that the Eye of Agamotto is the MCU’s version of the Time Stone.

In Avengers: Infinity War, the Time Stone will play a major role along with the other five Infinity Stones. Meanwhile, Thanos, played by Josh Brolin will try to complete Stones with the Infinity Gauntlet in order to take over the universe.

In the meantime, there has been some discussion regarding Marvel’s choice of Tilda Swinton being the Ancient One. Choosing a character of Celtic origin, teaching in a Tibetan fortress has raised a lot of questions.
