Alien is a science-fiction horror franchise which is focused on Ripley’s battles with highly dangerous extraterrestrial life-forms and now finally, Alien 5 is going to be added to it. With the upcoming sequel, we may get to see a Newt brought back, along with Michael Biehn and Sigourney Weaver.
According to the latest details, this movie will continue the story after 20 years. Coming Soon states that Neil Blomkamp’s that this highly-delayed addition to the alien franchise is still kind of pushing through.
According to the latest rumors, it will feature the return of various characters like Michael Biehn’s Corporal Dwayne Hicks, Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley and specifically the character Rebecca “Newt” Jorden.
In Alien 3, it was portrayed by child actress Danielle Edmond. During an interview with Icons of Fright, Biehn revealed that Newt might return as a grown-up in this sequel.
After the events of Aliens from 1986, the Newt will be brought back after 20 long years. According to Scified, Biehn revealed that they are planning to bring him and the Newt back and if that happens, the Newt will be around 27 years old.
He further admits that every actress in Hollywood would love to play this role and it will almost be like a passing of the torch between Sigourney and this younger actress who would play Newt.
With this new development, the franchise will be kept alive and the studio will keep making money. He admits that presently, the bottom line is: making the money. In case you are not aware, Newt was first introduced in the Aliens storyline as a young girl who ends up being the only survivor on the colony of LV-462.
It was seen that the child managed to bond with Sigourney Weaver. In the 1986’s Alien film, it was portrayed by Carrie Henn but later it was replaced by in the 1992 Alien 3 film by Edmond. Blomkamp’s Alien 5 was put on hold indefinitely according to IGN.
This was done in order to accommodate the Prometheus follow-up by Ridley Scott, which is now titled Alien: Covenant. Scott will of course, return as a producer in Alien 5 but at the same time, he is more focused on the Prometheus project. Reports indicate that this film will be released sometime in 2017.
After Ridley Scott decided to make Alien: Covent or Prometheus 2 early next year and as a result, Alien 5 is still shrouded in secrecy. Thankfully, this hasn’t stopped the principals from sharing what they actually know about the project.
At the same time, Michael Biehn opened up about why 20th Century Fox agreed to allow Blomkamp’s idea to become a part of the Alien Series. According to the latest reports, the new movie will not acknowledge the existence of Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection.
The franchise will simply be passed on to an older version of Newt, who was once rescued by Ripley in Alien 3. After escaping from the clutches of the xenomorph queen that had managed to stow away on the ship, Aliens ended with Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and injured Hicks (Biehn), the top half of Bishop (Lance Henrikson) and Newt (Carrie Henn) finally getting into cryosleep.
The infested planet was blown up by them and after that they jettisoned the Queen into space and from the looks of it, they were returning back to earth. Ripley was isolated to a men’s only prison planet by the time Alien 3 was brought into production by 20th Century Fox. Furthermore, the characters of Newt and Hicks were completely abandoned.
