Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 is going to be back on September 24th and if rumors are to be believed, it is set to be a great season. Last season got fans reeling with shock after the sudden demise of their beloved Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). The fans still can’t believe that he won’t be back, but that isn’t stopping them from finding out what’s happening in the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Season 12 of Grey’s Anatomy will start with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) still trying to cope with the death of her husband, Derek. There are rumors that Derek was killed off by show-runner Shonda Rhimes because he hadn’t renewed his contract after the eleventh season, and by the looks of it, Ellen Pompeo seems to be heading the same way.
Ellen Pompeo’s contract comes to an end with Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 and Rhimes is expected to kill her off as well. Meredith has Alzheimer’s disease and it was what killed her mother Ellis Grey. If Meredith is leaving the show then that would be the way through which she goes.
Before Meredith is killed off in Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 she is going to have a hard time with Derek not around and it looks like she and Derek’s sister Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) is finally going to get along.
To Amelia, Derek was a father figure. It was he who picked her up and saw her through after they lost their father at a young age and for her, the loss of Derek is like losing a father yet again. While talking to Design and Trend, Scorsone said that her character and Meredith have both lost a very important man in their lives and that is going to bring them together. They will need each other to come out of the tragedy they have just been through.
Scorsone has revealed that Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 will see a lot more laughter and happiness as compared to the last season. It looks like Amelia and Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) will come together, though Scorsone couldn’t confirm this.
In the Comic-Con 2015 panel of Grey’s Anatomy, Camilla Luddington, who plays Dr. Jo Wilson, said that things might heat up between her character and Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). The two have been enjoying a rather smooth run for over three seasons and that’s a little too good given the fate of couples in the series.
Jo and Alex have always had differences, but they could sort things out and move ahead. The two had moved in together and Alex had even suggested that they buy a dog together. There were reports that the return of Alex’s ex-wife Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) could make things ugly. Katherine has since then denied the rumors and said that she isn’t coming back on Grey’s Anatomy.
Luddington has gone on to tell The Hollywood Reporter that she wouldn’t be surprised Jo and Alex sort all their problems and decide to get engaged at the end of Grey’s Anatomy Season 12. She feels that if Alex was to propose to Jo right now, she would happily say yes.
There is another couple that might be able to sort out their problems in the upcoming season. Jessica Capshaw who plays the role of Arizona Robins will be happy to know that the actor has extended her contract.
