Fans of Grey’s Anatomy are sad since the new season will not have their favourite Dr. Shepherd. Dr. Derek Shepherd played by Patrick Dempsey was killed off in a road accident last season and fans are still trying to cope up with that shock.
It was the relationship between Dr. Derek and Dr. Meredith that was the main focus of the story and with Derek killed off by show-runner Shonda Rhimes, fans of the popular series feels cheated.
It is a known fact that Shonda Rhimes isn’t someone who focuses on fan sentiments to mould her story. She will introduce and remove characters from her series as and when she wishes to do so.
However, there is a rumor that Patrick Dempsey was axed from the series because of his differences with Rhimes. He supposedly threw tantrums and even had a fling with an intern on the set.
With Dempsey out, there are questions about what will happen to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). Unlike other principle characters, Ellen Pompeo hasn’t renewed her contract with Grey’s Anatomy beyond season 12.
There are speculations that Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 will show Meredith still trying to cope with Derek’s death. She will refuse to keep a grip on herself and will not be able to carry her responsibilities as a surgeon.
The initial seasons of Grey’s Anatomy had shown that Meredith has had a family history of Alzheimer’s disease and she was also a carrier. The upcoming season will focus on this side of the plot line. There rumors that suggest since Ellen Pompeo was never asked to extend her contract beyond Grey’s Anatomy Season 12, she will be killed off by the end of the season.
Shonda Rhimes is well aware that Dr. Derek Shepherd had a huge fan following and with him gone there is a huge chance of losing out on a lot of viewers. In a bid to keep the viewers and to make the show even more exciting, she is making a lot of changes in the story-line and will be bringing in new characters as well.
Tim Henderson is set to be introduced as a new doctor in the upcoming season. He is set to replace the space left by Patrick Dempsey. Given the fact that he will filling in for Dr. Derek, there are speculations that he might start liking Meredith and the two might even start dating.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 will see new characters being introduced into the plot line while some old characters will be made show regulars. Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George) who has been a part of the series since the initial seasons will be back in Seattle from Los Angeles since Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) will also be returning to the Seattle hospital.
There were rumors that Katherine Heigl is set to make a comeback into Grey’s Anatomy with Season 12. Heigl played the role of Dr. Izzie Stevens and she left the show way back in 2010 because of some differences with Shonda Rhimes.
There were rumors that Dr. Izzie’s return may make things difficult for Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo (Camilla Luddington). The two have been having a great relationship since the past three seasons and Camilla Luddington is of the opinion that it is unlikely for a couple to have such a smooth run in the series.
