Gran Turismo 7 is an upcoming racing video game that is being developed by Polyphony Digital. It will be released for the platform of PlayStation 4 by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the game to hit the shelves for quite some time. However, various reports suggest that there might be a delay in its release date.
Apparently, the developers are concentrating more on another Gran Turismo game- Gran Turismo Sport at the moment and thus Gran Turismo 7 might not be getting the required amount of attention. This could be a reason behind the delay in its release.
Gran Turismo Sport too will be released for the platform of PlayStation 4. The initial announcement for the game was made at 2015 Paris Games Week. Previously, fans were under the impression that Gran Turismo Sport was actually Gran Turismo 7 itself.
However, Jim Ryan, the President of Sony Europe has shot down this rumor and he himself confirmed that Gran Turismo Sport is not Gran Tursmo7. He also added that the game is not a prologue to Gran Turismo 7 either. It will have much more content to be called just a prologue.
Kazunori Yamauchi, the director of the Gran Turismo series while speaking on the matter stated- “The old days, when the games were offline, the experience was defined by what’s on the disc. You had a distinction between a Prologue and a full GT, it was very stark. When the game becomes more of an online connected experience, that distinction blurs. This will be much more than a Prologue type experience.”
Confirmation has been received that Gran Turismo Sport will be completely different from Gran Turismo 7. However, chances are that the games have slight impact on each other when they are both rolled out by Sony.
Polyphony Digital is the studio that is developing both the titles and thus it can be assumed that while trying to focus on one game, the studio is unable to employ the required amount of resources on the other game which in turn is delaying its release date.
It should be noted here that Gran Turismo 6 was developed and released for the platform of PlayStation 3 which has very nearly become obsolete in recent times. Gran Turismo 7 however is being developed for the platform of PlayStation 4 which is technically superior compared to its predecessor the PlayStation 3.
Thus, fans can expect Gran Turimso 7 to feature massive amount of improvement compared to GT 6. Yamauchi had earlier stated that the advanced technical features of the PlayStation 4 is enabling them to make the upcoming game more enhanced in every possible way compared to its predecessor.
He also added that the developers faced quite a number of difficulties while developing Gran Tursimo 6 for PlayStation 3. The same difficulties are not being faced by them in the development of GT 7. He pointed out that the PlayStation 4 is allowing them to render much high quality data and all the improvements will be reflected in the final product.
Apparently, the current gen console is giving a sort of freedom to the developers to do things that they were unable to do with PlayStation 3 in the case of Gran Turismo 6. Gran Turismo 7 is expected to feature excellent quality graphics.
The graphics department has always been the strong point of Gran Turismo games. The standard of graphics in these games have been quite high and as Yamauchi claims- the graphics of Gran Turismo 7 will be even better. One can only wonder as to what kind of standard for graphics the game will set once it is finally rolled out.
