Doctor Strange is already one of the most interesting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the very fact that he will brought to life by the noted actor Benedict Cumberbatch is what has caused the whole hype about the movie.
Marvel has had a very interesting year with the Guardians of The Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Ant man and now there is news that the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be initiated by the sorcerer Doctor Strange.

As the story goes, Doctor Stephen Strange, as his real name is, was first created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko way back in 1963. Doctor Stephen Strange is a PhD holder who was a wealthy surgeon, but had a big ego. This caused him to lose his family, fiancée and he even refused to go visit his father when he was on the death bed.
All this bad deed comes to bite him since we all know that karma is very powerful. Doctor Strange meets with a terrible car accident that badly injures him, especially the nerves in his hands, which brings his profession of a surgeon to a halting end.
The Doctor on realizing that nothing can improve his damaged hands, decides to go to Tibet when he hears rumors that the Ancient One who lives there is capable of mystical healing. However, the Ancient One is unable to heal his hands the way he expected it to be healed.
He then decides to give up everything and start teaching magic thereby becoming the Supreme Sorcerer in Earth. According to the comic created by Stan Lee, Doctor Strange possesses 31 powers and since he is also possess the Divine Power, it basically means that he has it all.
While there have been no official announcements from marvel yet, there is a report suggesting that the plot of Doctor Strange will focus mainly on the tutelage of the Doctor under the Ancient One. Another apprentice under Strange One, Karl Mordo is trying to control demons that have for so long been controlled by his teacher that Ancient One and Doctor Strange is taught by his mentor on how to learn the art that will help him to one day inherit the position of the Ancient One and protect the world around them.
Benedict Cumberbatch has said that the film is not going to be something that the fans of Doctor Strange will expect, but once they get it, they will be completely stumped by the sheer genius. He has told the fans that there are going to be cars, girls and lots of action and explosions in the movie along with an astral projection with multiple dimensions.
Doctor Strange is set to be directed by Scott Derrickson and while Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed in the lead role, there is a lot of hush hush when it comes to the female lead in the upcoming role.
According to Collider, Rachel McAdams has herself confirmed that she will be starring in Doctor Strange opposite Benedict Cumberbatch, but there is no official announcement about the role that she will be playing.
