Presently, there are many Sony users disgruntled with the fact that their devices won’t get the Android Lollipop 5.0 update. However, Xperia Z users can rejoice as the Lollipop update is coming to them any day now.
It has been confirmed that devices like that Xperia Z3, Xperia Z2 or the Xperia Z3 Compact in the United States will receive the update by March this year. According to justaboutphones.com, the particular piece of information was available thanks to Sony’s R&D team located in India. The publication team managed to grab hold of the ‘software update release schedule’ of the R&D Team, dates 8th March, 2015.
A screenshot of this schedule indicates that Android 5.0 Lollipop update has been finalized for the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, and the Z2. According to the OTA release section of this update, the status of the software update indicates “now uploading”. Hence, it can be safely predicted that the update is being uploaded to servers with a forthcoming release.
Furthermore, it has also been revealed that the update size will be 630.23MB for the Xperia Z3 and 517.86MB for the Xperia Z2. The owners of these devices should get ready to experience a lot of new features and enhancements with the latest Android platform.
In the meantime, Sony Mobile Indonesia has already declared via their Facebook page that the latest line of Xperia Z devices will receive the 5.0 update. The updates will start rolling out from March 16 in this region.
A changelog regarding this indicates that the improved OS will feature an intelligent User Interface, multi-user support, improved screen lock and optimal storage. Furthermore, users will also be able to move apps to their SD card storage. This particular OTA will weigh around 1.2 GB and require 20 minutes for full installation.
Besides the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and the Z2, other devices to receive this update are as follows: – Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z and the Xperia ZR. The users with these devices should make sure that prior to the update; they must have 640MB free memory and a minimum 50% battery charge.
