Xiaomi Mi5 to Be Released On 24th February, Raw Snapshot of The Device Leaked Shows Curved Front Panel!

Xiaomi Mi5 will be revealed next month on 24th February at an event where people will get their first look on this device. This news was announced through a Weibo Post from senior vice-president and co-founder Liwan Jiang.

According to him, Mi5 will be available a week later on Tuesday, 1st March. For the first batch of sales, Xiaomi seems to have planned some sort of a booking system. This makes perfect sense since Xiaomi devices are notorious for selling out very first.

The news was spotted by Gizmo China and it further reports that Xiaomi may have a few more surprises planned before/after the release of Xiaomi Mi5. Two full hours of main presentation has been blocked off by the company and that seems like a lot of time to focus on a single device. Considering that, it possible that we might get to see another gadget or more revealed on the same stage.

Another thing to be noted is that the event by Xiaomi will be held during the same week as Mobile World Congress where Samsung and LG are both expected to announce their own flagship devices. It is not expected that Mi5 will get a global launch but from the looks of it, Xiaomi might be gearing up to take some of the spotlight away from its biggest competition.

In the meantime, Xiaomi Mi5’s new features were showcased when a never-before-seen close-up shot of the device surfaced online. The new image of the Xiaomi device was gotten hold of by Fantasia News and it was alleged to be a Mi5.

The picture gave us a close look at the device’s front display panel. Xiaomi Mi5 comes with a curved panel which tends to taper at the edge. It was reported earlier that the Mi5 might come with dual-edged screen as seen in the Galaxy S6 Edge. However, the new picture shows off a completely different story altogether.

According to the image, the non-display part has been molded so that it curves towards the edge and the screen remains flat at the same time. Reports suggest that the 5.2inch Xiaomi will come in two different forms, one with QHD display (2560x1440p) with 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt memory and the other is expected to come with a full HD screen having 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.

The specifications are said to be the same in both of this devices. They will feature a 4GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt storage, Snapdragon 820 quad-core SoC (System-on-Chip), 16MP primary camera with dual-tone LED flash and a 13MP front snapper.

Other features to-be-seen in these devices are  Android v5.1 Lollipop OS based MIUI v7.0 OS backed by 3600 mAh battery and boast 4G-LTE network support, finger-print sensor and LED light notification feature. According to the latest rumors, Xiaomi Mi5 will be unveiled in the third week of February.

In July 2014, Xiaomi Mi4 made its debut and in 2015 July, the Mi5 was destined to make an appearance but that never happened.

Meanwhile, it has been assured by the company that it worth the wait since Xiaomi has put in a lot of effort in order to improve the final user experience on the Mi5.

Here are some of the latest speculations on the device, based on various reports. The Xiaomi Mi5 will come with atop-end model with full-metal body and QHD (2560x1440p) screen, and the other will come with 2.5D glass shield front-and-back having a metal frame and full-HD (1080x1920p) display.
