Tesla Model 3: Technical Specifications in the Dark, Rumored to be Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2016, Elon Musk Reveals Pricing, And More Information

However, if rumors are to be believed, Elon Musk had originally christened the Model 3 as the ‘Model E’. “A friend asked me about naming the upcoming sedan and I thought that we already have an S for Sports and X for SUV, why not come up with an E! Then Ford sued us over the acronym, as they were planning to use the term Model E. I think we’ll have to come up with another name” Elon Musk reportedly announced.

Tesla currently has three vehicles, the Model S, X and III! The Model 3 is unlikely to borrow any features off the Model S or the X, as all three vehicles are unique in terms of design, performance and the market segment that they cater too. The Model 3 is the brain child of Chris Porritt, of Tesla’s British Engineering Wing, who used to work at Aston Martin before switching.

The Model 3 is reportedly 20% smaller than the Model S and Musk believes that the vehicle will be priced around $35,000, if Tesla’s Gigafactory turns out to be a successful venture.

  1. Tesla has another vehicle, the one it launched with, called the Tesla Roadster.

I think it is very unlikely that Tesla will bother putting in the hardware necessary for the Model 3 to be in the hypercar tier. This is after all supposed to be the mass market electric that’s meant to be available at a price point of $35,000.

I’m also not sure why you’d compare any of Tesla’s cars with BMW’s M3 and M4 which are both internal combustion engine driven vehicles. 427 miles on a full tank isn’t even that great for a gas vehicle, though granted it is unlikely that the base Model 3 will measure up to that range since it is supposed to be affordable.
