In Legacy of the Void, developers will wrap up the established story of StarCraft. However, it won’t necessarily mean the end of this series. There was a long gap between the original StarCraft I and StarCraft II titles. Wings of Liberty were released around 12 years after the launch of Brood War expansion. Legacy of the Void will finally wrap all these stories up. According to Blizzard, StarCraft will continue living on as a universe.
In the meantime, the developers wish to explore the other parts of the universe. Therefore, the storyline which was set up in StarCraft I and StarCraft II will be resolved with the release of Legacy of the Void. All the principal characters will reach a proper, satisfying conclusion. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the developers will start working for a StarCraft III after the launch of Legacy.
However, it surely opens up the chances of such a development in due course of time. The earlier two StarCraft games were focused on Zerg (Heart of the Swarm) and Terran (Wings of Liberty). Meanwhile, Legacy of the Void is focused around the Protoss. For now, the beta, scheduled to be released on 31st March, will be accessible to a select group of people but will start expanding with time.
