The latest batch of reports state that the upcoming device will see the light of day within the current year. A major overhaul is on the cards as far as the technical aspect of the device is concerned.
It will be more advanced than its predecessors and might be loaded with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor under its hood which will make it snappier than the previous GoPro cameras. Another rumor that is floating around claims that a dual-lens setup will be used in the device.
All the previously released GoPro cameras pack Ambarella chips under their hoods. If indeed the GoPro Hero 5 is built with a Snapdragon chip, it is going to be a major improvement over the previous models of the lineup.
A number of action-cam companies have recently started using Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets in their cameras. It looks like GoPro too will be joining the list soon.
This will definitely work towards bringing about a major improvement in the quality of images and videos that will be captured with the device. Various reports also state that the GoPro Hero 5 will have a simpler form factor compared to the previous models. Apparently, it will be more portable in nature.
It will be smaller than the previous GoPro, which will enable users to fit the device in small spaces. However, the size will not affect the quality of output of the device which will be excellent, to say the least. The GoPro Hero 5 will most likely be 50 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter than the GoPro Hero 4.
It is being rumored that the device will come with the support for 8K resolution. It will possess the capability to shoot at a whopping frame rate of 60 frames per second. It was also reported that users will be able to capture and stream at 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second. As for the dual-lens setup, it will reportedly enable users to capture 3D footages.
Better connectivity features will also be built into the device which will enable users to connect it to other devices with ease. This feature will allow users to easily offload the contents of the device without having to connect it with data cables with PCs and laptops. It will also have the capability to connect to cloud-based services which will make offloading and storing even easier.
Various reports state that GoPro is making the camera more suitable for persons who are into sports, adventure and athletics. However, rumor has it that the device will be extremely versatile and will cater to the needs of all kinds of users.
Nick Woodman, the founder and CEO of GoPro had earlier revealed that the company will no longer be selling the Hero and Hero LCD cameras.
However, it will continue to sell the Hero 4 Session, Silver and Black. He also stated that GoPro Hero 5 will be most connected and convenient GoPro camera in the entire GoPro lineup.
The device will be water resistant and rumor has it that it will be functional at a depth of 60 meters underwater. The GoPro Hero 4 was water-resistant up to a depth of 20 meters and if the latest rumors are to be believed, the Hero 5 is set to get a major overhaul in this department too.
Two variants of the device will reportedly be released by GoPro. One of them will be a high-end model and the other will be a budget-friendly one. Apparently, GoPro is trying to cater to the needs of all kinds of people by introducing two different models of the Hero 5 with different price tags.
