Orange is the New Black is a series that has always delivered the unexpected and it has lived up to its reputation in Season 4 as well. The series has ended with a gripping finale in each of the three seasons and this time, it decided to take things to the next level concerning the plot, the characterization, and the twists.
Creator Jenji Kohan had been very clear about the fact that the fourth season of Orange is the New Black will be one of the darkest seasons that the viewers have ever seen, and it is aptly so. Orange is the New Black Season 4 shocks the viewers since it ends up killing fan favorite, Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley). There was a huge protest in the prison, which ended up becoming fatal, and finally, Litchfield loses one of its inmates.
During the protest, most of the women were standing on top of the tables and protesting peacefully and demanding the resignation of the C.O, when the guards are ordered to move them from the dining area.
Poussey tries to calm down Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) and while doing that, Bayley (Alan Aisenberg) throws her on the ground. Bayley was introduced in Orange is the New Black Season 4, and he was a young guard who changes at the Litchfield Correctional Facility. Crazy Eyes attacks Bayley seeing him tackle Poussey. While trying to battle Crazy Eyes, Bayley forgets that Poussey is pressed beneath him, and she dies gasping for breath.
Things get nasty in Litchfield when a black inmate suffocates and dies in the hands of a white officer. There is a huge protest about Black Lives Matter, and Piper gets caught in a tight spot when she starts a white lives matter chant.
Maria (Jessica Pimentel), who is the leader of the Dominicans, and already holds a grudge against Piper for increasing her prison sentence, decides to make things very nasty.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the viewers of Orange is the New Black Season 4 were starting to love the characters and starting to enjoy the unraveling of their prison sentence. They would forget that they had the privilege to enter one of the most horrifying places in the world, and creator Jenji Kohan decided to shake his viewers up with this scene.
Maria gets hold of Piper late one night and instructs her supporters to get a swastika mark branded on Piper’s arm permanently as a mark of what the white race has done. The stint in Litchfield had been a tough one for Piper. She has changed a lot over the course of her prison term. She has been behaving in a rather odd manner and making enemies all around.
The viewers of Orange is the New Black Season 4 will remember the episode where Alex (Laura Prepon) comes face to face with Aydin in the greenhouse. Alex had some help from Lolly (Lori Petty) and Frieda (Dale Soules) when she tackles and kills Aydin. The three dismember the body and bury parts of it all around Red’s (Kate Mulgrew) little garden.
Laura Prepon spoke about the incident and said that it was thrilling shooting for the scene. The scene was shot inside the greenhouse at the peak of summer. They were dripping wet and felt like fighters. It might have been difficult for them if they hadn’t known that the scene they were about to shoot was one of the best.
