Mikkelsen appeared on UK news channel Sky News and handled a lot of questions about his upcoming role in Doctor Strange as the villain and also in Rogue One. When the conversation shifted to praising his co-star in the latter film Felicity Jones, the loose-tongued Mikkelsen issued what can be considered a gaffe.
The relationship between Mikkelsen’s character and Jones’ apparent protagonist Jyn Erso was confirmed by him doing that. Mikkelsen explained “I read the script, it was very beautiful and Felicity’s playing this lovely, young, strong woman and I play her father. – That was too much. I’m sorry.”
However, a lot of significant details might not have been leaked by Mikkelsen’s apparent slip-up, especially regarding the name of his character or the context of what he actually does in the film. However, it might confirm previous rumors that had him secured as Jones Jyn Erso’s enstranged criminal father. Star Wars: Rogue One is all set for release on 16th December 2016.
The official teaser trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One has been released by Disney since we are simply months away from the upcoming movie. This film takes place before the events of the 1977 original film. In Rogue One, we follow Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones along with a group of Rebel Fighters on a mission to steal plans for the Death Star.
Back in March 2015, the title of the firm film in the Star Wars anthology series was announced; however, very little information has been released since then. The trailer manages to provide an appropriate glimpse into the rebellion.
At the same time, some developments have already leaked into the media. Firstly, this film will be the first in the Star Wars Anthology series, which is a series of standalone films including ones dedicated to Han Solo and Boba Fett, the bounty hunter.
The film will be directed by Gareth Edwards, who is primarily known for his 2014 Godzilla reboot. Chris Weitz is the scriptwriter. He was chosen based on an idea from visual effects supervisor John Knoll.
Gary Whitta from After Earth was originally chosen to write the screenplay but after writing the first draft, he left the story. This movie is set before the events of the original 1977 Star Wars film, known as A New Hope.
It focuses on a group of Rebel Fighters who attempt to steal the plans for the Death Star, the empire’s latest and newest weapon. The idea was received by Knoll from an opening crawl in A New Hope.
It read, “During the battle, rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star.” It was further confirmed by Gareth Edwards that this would be a war movie and the Jedi will not be present in the film.
The first person cast in the film was a Rebel Soldier none other than Felicity Jones. In Disney’s D23 Expo, we saw rest of the cast members announced.
They include Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna, Jiang Wen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Donnie Yen, and Alan Tudyk. Jones’ character is also introduced as Jyn Erso in the trailer.
Jyn Erso is an orphan who has been living on her own since the age of 15. There is also a list of crimes she has apparently committed. When she is described as reckless, aggressive and undisciplined, the character responds that it is a rebel, is it not, ending with “I rebel”. Mon Mothma, the political leader from Return of the Jedi meets with her. Meanwhile, Jyn Erso and Diego Luna’s character will work together.
