Although following a brand is quite impossible, the following of a personality is far easier. Meanwhile, Dota players love personality. Keep in mind that the personalities don’t always manifest in the most professional manner. It was noticed when Peter “PPD” Dager with the rest of Evil Geniuses played against Brazilian squad Pain Gaming. PPD’s comments that included telling Pain “you’re not qualifying for this event so just get this s–t over with,” are some of the best reminders of Professional Dota and its relative immaturity.
Meanwhile, Evil Genius’ tried to clear out the situation by suggesting that their caption was simply kidding around. In spite of that, Reddit and Twitter communities slung allegations of racism towards PPD, all throughout that week. It might have been casual racism or just jerk attitude, but none can deny that it was highly unprofessional. Furthermore, this isn’t the first or the last time that a player got into trouble for making insensible remarks.
Potential plays a major role in Dota 2. The players are simply a few years younger than the average NBA or NFL roster. It’s expected of them to say stuff that they will end up regretting in later life.
