Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update: Available on all Nexus Devices, Google Fixes Some Major Security Flaws and Introduces Additional Emojis, More Details

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update rolled out for the Huawei Nexus 6P recently and it is kind of a bummer that such a lack luster smartphone has been updated with the most-anticipated OS of the year.

Google plans to keep their existing customer-base satisfied and has hence rolled out the latest update, fixing a few minor glitches on a select few devices. The primary task of the new OS is providing an enriched user experience.

Google is currently offering the software update on the Nexus range of smartphones and tablets only. Hence, if you’re not a Nexus user, try to control your emotions, since the update has quite a few ingenious features on offer.

The first major feature included in the update is the addition of 200 plus emojis. Emojis have turned into one of the most popular communication tools in recent history, expressing emotions more vividly than words.

As a result, news of the 200+ additional emojis have spread through the Android community and people can’t wait to get their hands on the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. The primary benefit of additional emojis is the reduced dependence on third-party applications, which are a major reason behind a laggy OS.

This move is being compared to Apple’s decision of introducing 150+ emojis to their keyboard application. Google just refuses to give in to Apple’s supposed superiority in the smartphone industry and they have managed to do quite well for themselves in the past couple of years.

Hence, instead of adding a set of 200 random emojis, Google has carefully researched each set and has introduced a comprehensive set of emojis for the users to choose from. Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow also introduces a unified volume control.

While using a Bluetooth device, users had to turn up the volume on both devices independently. With the latest addition, the process is unified, meaning you can turn up the volume on the Bluetooth speaker or headset, by turning up the volume from your smartphone.

Even though Google has developed their OS to support most of the Bluetooth devices in the market today, a few might not be compatible initially. Google had introduced the Do Not Disturb feature with the Android 5.0 Lollipop with the volume controls, which was used to filter notifications.

This feature allowed the users to choose which apps to receive notifications from and priority notifications. It also introduced a one touch silent mode, which was quite a useful addition. This option was left out in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but has been revived in the latest 6.0.1 update.

Android users previously had to create a shortcut of the camera button in order to access it quickly. However, in the latest update, double tapping the power button opens the camera application.

Google has also changed the manner in which the users cut, copy or paste words. This change made it easier to jump word by word while when moving forward on a line and made the process more precise when heading backwards.

Android users complained of a software lag while copy pasting words. Google made sure that the problem was addressed and has quite successfully removed the lag from the OS.Another reason for the Android users to cheer!

Nexus 5 and 6 users had previously complained that their device froze while sending or receiving picture messages. Some others were unable to download and view MMS. Google claims to have fixed this problem in their latest android update.
