VMAs Weekend At Hollywood’s Avalon Kicked off Successfully by Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, More Details

At Hollywood’s Avalon, when Demi Lovato shouted into the crowd “Who’s ready for the f—ing VMAs this weekend?” the crowd greeted her with a roar of cheers. Time Warner Cable and Lifebeat as part of their pre-VMA festivities presented the pop-star’s 45 minute headlining set and it was further heralded by a teaser set from Nick Jones.

Both of them are close friends and former tourmates and the performance was actually meant as a warm-up for Sunday Night’s award show and Jonas is said to perform in this show. A club show at Avalon presented her an opportunity to test out the material from her new upcoming album Confident and it is supposed to arrive on 16th October.

The singer told the audience that there are songs on her album that are more ‘soulful’. She also declared that to her this feels like the first time she was able to showcase her voice on the album. According to her, most of the new material was inspired from classic singers like Aretha Franklin.

Franklin was honored by Lovato last evening and includes a no-holds-barred cover of “Ain’t no way”. Her skills for live vocals were clearly outlined by her enthusiastic and thrilling performance which included a lot of her hits like “Heart Attack,” “Skyscraper” and “Really Don’t Care.” Lovato was wearing shiny black shorts and a white crop top.

She made her way around the Avalon stage which was adorned with a brilliantly lit cage of fluorescent light tubes. Frozen’s Let it Go was her second choice of cover and it offered a rare juxtaposition to her newfound grown-up pop aesthetic. At the same time, her performance paid deep homage to the singer’s original Disney roots.

The real moment of truth was when Lovato unveiled her new single “Cool for the Summer” and she was quite excited about it. According to her, every time she gets into her car, she can hear this song on the radio. In the meantime, the fans shouted and waved for Jonas’ attention as he watched Lovato’s performance from sidestage.

He opened the evening with a 30-minute performance of tracks from her recent solo album along with a few abridged covers. He kept strutted onstage wearing a white leather jacket and sunglasses and he eventually tossed both of them aside. Jonas further rolled up his T-shirt sleeves and flexed his biceps continuously throughout the performance.

He started with Chains, following with Numb and then offered his latest single “Levels”. Jonas further declared that this was the first audience that he had played this song for and those listened to it should feel quite special. His choice of covers ranged from The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” to Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison”.

It was held together by a retro soul vibe which was infused throughout. While singing these songs, he further shouted “Pick it up, pick it up” while dancing all around the stage. He further acknowledged the fact that most of the members in the audience had drinks in their hands and seemed to be having a good time.

As a result, he encouraged them to move and act like they’re at a concert. He concluded his quickie set with a performance of “Jealous”.

At the benefit concert in Hollywood, designed to kick off the MTV VMAs Weekend, Demi was not at all shy while clearly exposing her taut tummy and her shapely legs adorned with fishnet stockings. She was also wearing knee-high boots.

Demi was scheduled to sing her new single on Sunday, titled Cool for the Summer, during the MTV VMAs that is scheduled to take place at the Microsoft Theater in downtown, LA.

Good-hearted 23-year old Nick Jonas performance at the concert was to benefit the nonprofit group which stresses on educating US Youths about the problems of HIV/AIDS and also prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
