Technical Specifications of the 2016 BMW M4 GTS Revealed, Priced at $134,200 Including Destination Fees!

The BMW M4 GTS took the world by storm late last year when the vehicle managed to clock a record lap time of 7 minutes and 28 seconds on the Nurburgring race track in Germany, the Holy Grail of performance testing.

BMW had also released a video later on showcasing the feat, which helped the M4 GTS secure a spot in the list of the Top 100 vehicles at the Nurburgring. BMW recently showcased the M4 GTS at the Amelia Island Concoursd’Elegance and the vehicle was grabbing eyeballs even while laying perfectly still at the venue!

If you are thinking that the BMW M4 GTS is just a rebadged BMW M4 with a larger engine, you would be wrong. A lot of work has gone behind the vehicle to reduce its weight, enhance performance and increase fuel economy while tearing up the competition.

Under the hood lies a 3.0-liter M Twin turbocharged V6 engine block that is capable of developing 493 BHP along with443 ft-lb of torque. The vehicle can reach a top speed of 189.5 MPH while accelerating from 0 – 60 MPH within 3.5 seconds, which is pretty fast for a stock M4.

But, it’s not a stock M4 and that is the most fascinating aspect about this car. In fact, the most remarkable part about the vehicle isn’t even under the hood. You will have to pop the trunk to find it. In case you are wondering what we are referring to, it’s the M4’s water injection technology.

However, before we delve into further details let’s make it clear that BMW plans on manufacturing just 700 units of the M4 GTS, 300 of which are allocated for the US market. Hence, the desirability of the vehicle just shot up.

Fanatics who haven’t blown their wad (yet!) on a ludicrously priced E30 or 46, still run a chance of pre-booking the M4 GTS. However, if you are interested in owning the vehicle you better hurry up before the M4 GTS turns into another 1M Coupe.

BMW is offering a 7-speed M double clutch transmission system on the M4 GTS that sports a specially configured Launch Control system in manual. BMW claims that the fuel economy on the M4 GTS remains the same as its Euro spec model, although, there is a catch here!

The Water Injection system has a total carrying capacity of 5-liter,which needs to be topped off every time you refuel when pressing the vehicle hard around the track or once every five times when cruising down highways.

The M4 GTS faces stiff competition from the Mercedes-Benz C63 Coupe AMG,which develops 503 BHP from a bi-turbo V8 engine block. BMW is however more interested in generating a high power to weight ratio on the M4 GTS, which gives the vehicle a greater boost in its class.

BMW has managed to reduce the weight of the M4 GTS by almost 176 pounds as compared to the standard M4,and this has been achieved by removing the rear seats and the use of aluminum control arms, axle subframes, wheel carriers and carbon fiber reinforced plastic on the hood, roof, the front end and rear spoilers.

Addition of a titanium exhaust system and carbon ceramic disk brakes also play a major role in reducing the overall weight of the vehicle. The engineers at BMW’s M Division further gave the M4 GTS a three-way adjustable M coil over suspension along with a huge rear wing, additional spoilers, reworked electromechanical steering system,an enhanced active M-slip differential, lightweight alloys from the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Bandit of the 1970s and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires!
