When it comes to the world of gaming technology, Valve is one of the biggest possible names. Over the past several years, the company has released many innovative and interesting games but their most iconic and legendary gaming franchise is Half Life and it will continue to remain so even if Half-Life 3 is never released.
The Half Life games have been around for quite some time now and each of the games in this series has had something special to be offered. The latest game in the series will be Half Life 3 and it is also one of the most rumored games in the market of gaming.
However, according to the latest speculations, a major disappointment is about to hit fans of this franchise since latest reports have indicated that Half Life 3 might be canceled.
There are many reasons which have led to such a speculation. For instance, Marc Laidlaw was the one who single-handedly created and directed the Half-Life franchise but he left the company a few months ago. It was pretty clear that the future of Half-Life 3 is in major doubt. Marc now wishes to pursue greater ambitions and he decided to quit the company after sixteen long years.
For a long time, Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve has expressed a lack of interest and excitement regarding the possibility of a Half-Life 3. Earlier, he declared, “The only reason we’d go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why.
But you know if you want to do another Half-Life game and you want to ignore everything we’ve learned in shipping Portal 2 and in shipping all the updates on the multiplayer side that seem like a bad choice. So we’ll keep moving forward. But that doesn’t necessarily always mean what people are worried that it might mean.”
It has been 12 years since Half-Life 2 was released but updates and speculations regarding Half-Life 3 still exist and from the looks of it, this will continue till the end of times. There is a huge demand among fans to witness the release of the next installment in this epic sci-fi first-person shooter series.
Managing Director and Co-Founder Gabe Newell clearly declared to IGN that they are simply not interested. Things have been looking pretty grim for Half Life 3 ever since Marc Laidlaw left.
Therefore, Half Life 3 won’t see the light of day anytime soon even though you may keep finding various Easter Eggs in games like Dying Light, Mad Max and more. However, speculations have still continued to exist.
It was reported that Valve and Steam have been working together with HTC for the development of HTC Vive Pre-gaming device. Over the next few years, HTC will come up with a lot of VR ready games.
One of them could be Half-Life 3, expected to be released in 2017. Sadly, there is no word from game developers regarding such a possibility. Well, they haven’t really denied it so there is still a sliver of hope.
If I were you, I’d stop hoping for a Half-Life 3 release and as hard as it may sound, simply decide to move on. In the meantime, if you keep hearing Half Life 3 reports, it is advised that you take them with a grain of salt.
An $800 price tag has been announced for the HTC Vive Pre and Valve further released a handy benchmark tool which you can use in order to see whether your system is up-to-date. The benchmark tool also contains some references to Left 4 Dead 3 and Half-Life 3.
